This blog is dead

This blog is dead. It’s been way too long since I put in an entry last. So don’t even bother reading this, ‘cause it will be another half a year until the next entry and that is just going to disappoint you.

So, anyway, Joseph’s working at a school in Simrishamn now, teaching German. It’s about 90km from Malmö, so getting there takes some time. At least there’s a direct train. It sure feels good to earn some money again. As you might have figured out then, Joe even got his Masters degree in Education last summer. Turns out, all those degrees don’t count that much when you are looking for a job (Joe would have much rather worked in Malmö). Well, well, that’s the financial crisis for you.

Karin’s still working hard, planning those swimming lessons giving classes and instructions. All that hard work might just pay out since there is a chance we’ll end up in Berlin soon, with Karin as new regional manager for Nautilus in Berlin. But we don’t know for sure, thus far, so don’t get your hopes up too high just yet. But you can of course keep your fingers crossed.

Summer’s come to an end and the time of those never ending days of sunshine is over, at least for this year. The mornings are dark, cold and rainy (well, this morning it was). Makes you realize what a beautiful summer it really was. We built a shed/garden house at my mum’s place, visited Berlin and travelled around in Skania, even visiting Öland for a weekend. It’s hard to find better than Sweden in summer – in summer, that is. Now comes the dark part of the year, but with a bit of love and creativity you can have a whole lot of cozy moments even then. Actually, I’m looking forward to those…

Malmö 10k

Joe ran the Malmö10k on Saturday. Thanks to Karin's support, we even have some pictures to proof it...

It all started with a cellphone headset. Joe went through a sale-bucket at a telecom-store and found this headset to go with his SE-phone. The original price was somewhat around SEK 900:- (which is just ridiculous), sales price was SEK 600:-. There was a note, though, encouraging you to ask a salesperson for the current price. This Joe did and was confronted with a current price of SEK 300:-. After a short flinching from Joe's side, the price was lowered to SEK 200:-. Now, You might think that's still expensive, but then you have to take into account that we're not talking about a regular headset. This one has GPS integrated, meaning that you can now use your phone as a navigator. You might wonder what that got to do with Joe partaking in a running event. Well, apart from the navigator program, there was another program included called Tracker. This one lets you see where and how fast you travel as well as recording this information. Main area of use for this application: jogging/running.

So, eventually, to test the application, Joe started jogging through Malmö. Three kilometres became five, five became 7, and before you know it, Joe was running 10 kilometres. All this running was not too bad, but what Joe was missing was a goal. Enter Malmö10k. After seeing some advertising for this event Joe decided to partake (at which time Joe was running around 5km). So, with help of the Tracker-program Joe trained to run the 10km under the hour, which seemed to go fine.

Now Saturday, 13 June was the actual event and after three days of rain, the weather changed to partly cloudy and later sunny, which was perfect running weather. After putting on the running gear (including a chip for timekeeping) and having the support of Karin, Joe was ready. As stated, the goal was to finish under the hour; less than 55 minutes would be even better. The track started at Pildammsparken, then went on to the Turning Torso and Västra Hamnen whith the Öresundsbridge in the background, continuing through Universitetsholmen and Slottsparken and finishing at Tallriken/Pildammsparken after passing the Malmö Opera. It was a really nice and scenic track, but most of all it felt good that, for once, the cars had to wait for us and not the other way around (if you jog in the city, you'll really start to hate cars). All the time, Karin wasn't far away and supported Joe whilst taking plenty of pictures.

When Joe finally crossed the finish line, he was exhausted (naturally!). It hadn't gone as well as he anticipated, probably because he ate too much in the morning or drank too much before the event. Anyway, Joe finished and got a big hug&kiss from Karin (once he had caught his breath). And, as all other participants, he now has a medal as proof of his participation. Later that evening, we had a nice relaxed BBQ with a couple of friends at our place.

That night, Joe slept really well...
